07 Dec Young girl rescued within 24 hours
A few days ago we received an email from another charity in Nepal, asking for our help. Jamila and her twin sister, Gita (names changed), were being looked after by distant relatives since being abandoned by their parents. They had been receiving essential support from the charity, including education and healthcare.
However, a recent turn of events threatened Jamila’s safety. She was lured away from her home under the false pretenses of a better life.
As happens so often, a well meaning contact found a family for Jamila to move to, where she was promised a home, great schooling and regular contact with her family. But then the trail went cold. Jamila could no longer be contacted. Everyone feared the worst.
Fortunately, within 24 hours of receiving the report, our team in Nepal had tracked down Jamila and the individuals who were keeping her.
With the assistance of local police, Jamila was safely reunited with her extended family and will return to her home in Sindhupalchok, where she will continue her education, under careful monitoring.
