Child Rescue Nepal News Story I Am Belmaya

Some exciting things coming up

We’ve really missed seeing you in person over the past 18 months, but we know that many of you live far away so our online meetings have actually brought us closer together. We have decided to continue our online events for a while in the knowledge that it includes as many of you as possible. We hope to resume in-person events one of these days, but we don’t have anything planned right now.

Exclusive screening of I am Belmaya – September
You are invited to an exclusive online screening of the new feature documentary I Am Belmaya, and afterwards for a live Q&A with Director Sue Carpenter and Jo Bega (Chief Executive of Child Rescue Nepal), along with highlights of a pre-recorded Q&A with Belmaya Nepali.

This is your chance to see this beautiful, inspirational film, set in Nepal, before its public release on 11 October. A story 14 years in the making, I Am Belmaya follows an uneducated young Dalit woman’s transformational journey from schoolgirl to subjugated wife to award-winning documentary filmmaker.

This is a fundraising event, with a minimum donation of £10 per person. All profits will be split equally between CRN (for Marigold House, our safe house for girls), and Tideturner Films (towards an international release of the film to amplify the film’s important messages, with 20% of Tideturner’s share going direct to Belmaya and her daughter).

London Marathon – Sunday 3rd October
This year’s London Marathon will be happening in real life, and we are delighted to say that we have five runners taking part in this massive challenge whilst fundraising for Child Rescue Nepal. We’ll be bringing you more details about them soon, as I know you will really want to get behind our committed team of runners.

Cooking demonstration with Chef Santosh – November
We are delighted that Chef Santosh, runner up in last year’s Masterchef: The Professionals, has agreed to do an online cooking event for us! We will share more details soon, but we hope this will take place in November. As a young boy he dropped out of school to work as a child labourer, so we will be finding out more about his story as he cooks.

Online Christmas Quiz – December
We don’t feel confident enough to hold an in-person event yet, but are planning an online quiz to bring us all together at Christmas time whilst raising a few pounds for Child Rescue Nepal. Watch this space and, in the meantime, start swotting up on your trivia!
