01 Aug Nine boys rescued from child labour in Kathmandu
We’re delighted to share that we have successfully rescued nine boys from exploitative child labour in Kathmandu.
After months of investigating various workshops, including those for motors, bikes, carpentry, and metalwork, we found many children working in hazardous conditions. Multiple covert visits confirmed their ongoing presence in these dangerous environments. We then submitted a detailed report to two municipalities, requesting their support for a rescue operation.
This morning, we joined police and other officials to rescue nine boys from two workshops. The operation was a joint effort between our partners EBMF and ChoraChori Nepal.
Two children were immediately reunited with their families under local authorities’ supervision. The remaining seven were temporarily placed in the care of the 1098 Child Helpline transit home and are expected to be transferred to us within the next few days.
Eight other children identified during the investigation were in less hazardous conditions, and their employers were instructed to return them home. CRN will continue to monitor their situation.
Following these rescues, our team will meet with the children at the 1098 Helpline care home to discuss their next steps and provide necessary support.
